  • By @blklivesmatter - Fam, it’s okay to be tired. It’s okay to be exhausted, in mourning, mad at the world that continues to rob us of life.

Allow yourself to pause and seek joy. Today and every day, our souls need some Black joy. When Black folks laugh, we laugh with our entire being. @goldinggirl617 put it perfectly: “Whenever Black people laugh we always spread out as if the space we were originally in isn’t big enough to hold the joke or our joy...Our happiness can’t be contained.”

Our unapologetic laughter is the sound of pure magic escaping. Our laughter is healing, our laughter is joy, and our joy is resistance— we will not allow white supremacy to steal it.

Thank you @mo_the_writer for compiling these clips last year, and reminding us to take some time to fully live in our joy.

  • By @blklivesmatter - Reminder: justice will never truly be served. Because justice can only mean Black life.

Our hearts are with the Brown family in North Carolina. We watch closely and wait to hear the full truth. Killer cops are also lying cops, and right now they aren't releasing full footage of what happened that night. Tomorrow morning, a judge will decide whether the full footage is released to the public.

Andrew Brown Jr., say his name. @blklivesmatter

  • By @blklivesmatter - Biden's first 100 days are up this Friday. By then, we want him to sign an Executive Order to demilitarize our communities and #End1033.

Assault rifles, grenade launchers, and tanks don’t keep us safe. Tell @joebiden to end the 1033 program and stop giving weapons of war to police departments. Visit end1033now.com to learn more and sign our petition. Link in bio. @blklivesmatter

  • By @blklivesmatter - Are you in one of these states? The 1033 Program transfers military equipment to over 8,000 law enforcement agencies across 49 states.

Military equipment does not reduce violence or keep communities safe. There is little oversight or accountability for these transfers, little assessment of how the equipment is used once distributed, and little ability to prevent, detect, or properly respond to cases of fraud. All of this is operating through a system of white supremacy. We know what keeps us safe. And this ain’t it.

The countdown continues- only 7 days left until President Biden’s first 100 days are up. Sign the petition in our bio to demand that Biden demilitarize our neighborhoods and #End1033. @blklivesmatter

  • By @blklivesmatter - Ma’Khia Bryant. We say her name.

Another Black life stolen without a second thought. As much as we grieve, we refuse to define or remember Ma’Khia by her final moments.

We’re going to uplift, celebrate, and honor this Black child for what she loved -- doing her hair, making Tik Toks, having fun. Just being a teenager.

Rest in power, Queen. @blklivesmatter

  • By @blklivesmatter - @joebiden @kamalaharris, right now, are calling for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Here’s what you need to know: George Floyd’s life would not have been saved by the provisions of this bill—because this bill calls for reform. More cameras, more training, more money spent on policing. Our police departments have already been doing this.

We don’t need the Justice in Policing Act. We need the BREATHE Act. A radically different reimagining of community safety.

Community safety—a value of Black life— is what keeps Black folks safe. Not more police. @blklivesmatter

  • By @blklivesmatter - Only 10 days left until President Biden’s first 100 days are up. By then, we need him to sign an Executive Order to end 1033, the program that transfers military equipment into the hands of police across the country-- including school and campus police. Another example? The military you see out on your streets ahead of the Chauvin verdict.

As of right now, Biden is sending more military equipment to our neighborhoods than Trump did. You read that right. Our communities are being terrorized at a greater rate than they had been under Trump.

  • By @blklivesmatter - @unclebobbyx has become the people’s uncle— through the Love Not Blood Campaign, he and his wife, @beatricex_19, have played a huge role in supporting families who have had family members killed by the police.

This short film documents the love that drives Uncle Bobby’s & Aunt Bee’s work, work that began together with the murder of their nephew, Oscar Grant. For the last 12 years, they have created community, amplified stories, and fostered spaces for truth-telling and healing.

The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is honored to be able to support the #LoveNotBloodCampaign in sustaining their support services to families. We want change—and we also want healing for our families. Through the Love Not Blood Campaign’s Healing Through Resistance program and annual Families United 4 Justice Network Conference, they have the understanding and skill to help families find healing.

  • By @blklivesmatter - The #BLMSurvivalFund gave grantees a bit of breathing room, after months of having very little of it.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting more of our grantees’ stories. Some, like Shafonia from South Bend, are families impacted by police violence. Her husband, Eric Logan, was killed in June 2019 by South Bend police.

Last year, South Bend officials found this murder “justified.” No reparations, no support has been given to Shafonia and her family from the government. But the #BLMSurvivalFund was there.

Thank you, Shafonia, for sharing your story and some of your husband’s joy with us. Rest in power Eric Logan.

  • By @blklivesmatter - Artist Statement: Simply, an improvisation, a meditation, and a dance party with and for MLK. Using his final 'mountaintop' speech in 1968, and Ravyn Wngz' viral press intervention in 2020 as acts of remembrance, of solemnity and release.

Concept/Performance: @rodneydiverlus

Words from: Martin Luther King, Jr (1968) & @ravynwngz (2020)

Today, the Black Lives Matter Global Network launches its newest arts and culture endeavor ( MLK artist series) centering life, love, joy, rest and pleasure. Following the launch of their USPS campaign “Write Black Love Letters,” the creative and curatorial team of Patrisse Cullors (@osopepatrisse) and Noni Limar (@nonilimar) deliver a new series of works that focus on Black Life and how MLK’s life has inspired us all to live. The new series will live on the BLM website and Instagram in celebration of King’s influence and achievements as a civil rights leader. This year is especially important to amplify his work more than ever after the violent events that took place at the US Capitol, our symbol of democracy, on January 6th. This attack against the 117th US Congress--carried out by a mob of white supremacists--was an attempt to overturn Trump’s defeat in the election, a direct assault on our right to vote and democracy. We need to uplift our community right now and these artists have been curated as love is a focal point of their work, and with love brings healing and the ability to rejoice and continue the necessary work to move forward as a people.
